ABOUT ME
Xavier Manrique was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador and raised in Miami, Florida. From a young age, Xavier was drawn to the stunning landscapes of both worlds which fueled his passion for photography and paved the way for his progression into the world of film. Believing that both photography and film are powerful mediums for storytelling, Xavier integrates both art forms to create stunning works of art through visual storytelling.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Xavier has developed a distinctive method and style in his use of expired film, a creative choice that involves working with film rolls that have passed their recommended expiration date. This style relies heavily on experimentation as it is influenced by the condition of the expired film, storing conditions and degree of expiration. This approach can produce pieces with unique, unpredictable yet captivating characteristics, such as decreased sensitivity and contrast, increased grain, and color shifts.
Embracing the inherent unpredictability and imperfections is a fundamental aspect of Xavier’s artistic process. The charm and appeal lies in the appreciation of these unique and unexpected results which are integral elements of the final pieces.
FILMOGRAPHY
In addition to photography, Xavier is an accomplished film director. He communicates with his audience through a use of meticulous art direction and cinematography while engaging in poignant character exploration. Notably, Xavier has directed and produced two successful feature films. His debut, CHRONICALLY METROPOLITAN is a cynical and clever coming-of-age film featuring a stellar cast including Shiloh Fernandez, Ashley Benson, Mary-Louise Parker, Chris Noth, Josh Peck, and Addison Timlin. Following this success, Xavier’s second film, WHO INVITED CHARLIE? is a heartwarming comedy featuring Jordana Brewster, Adam Pally, & Reid Scott.
